WCI Cat Guide
This is a guide for making a cat (or wolf) from my fanclans. Mostly written for myself. Originally on tumblr but I rewrote it for here.
Ok first, some history:
Only three out of the four clans are descendants of the canon clans. The trip to the territory they’re in now hurt the clans a lot. Both for their own safety, and because there wasn’t enough territory at the time, RiverClan and WindClan decided to become one.
StarClan is very picky about the number of clans, so it ended up becoming a bigger part of everyone’s lives for a while (with regular cats being able to dream of it, and ghosts visiting more often). When BadgerClan and WolfTribe appeared, StarClan was satisfied with the number of clans and became a hivemind instead of a real clan with individual cats.
But this is a guide for living cats SO I’ll write StarClan another time. :3

Descendants of ShadowClan, but they don’t act like it, DustClan territory is inside a cave system on the barren mountain surrounding the Fourpeaks. They live too close to the WolfTribe camp to hunt in the forest, so they’re stuck in the cave their camp is in. They’re pretty much always starving from the small amount of food in the cave, and rabies is a common way to die.
DustClan cats are built much smaller and thinner than cats of other clans and they also tend to be lighter colors. Darker colored cats are often not allowed very far into the cave because they would be harder to find in the event they would get lost or stuck.
Olmstar is a lean white cat who was born blind in one eye, and lost the other in a disaster. She has a strong connection with StarClan due to the moonstone she wears in her empty socket.
Each clan adds to the collective knowledge of them all, and DustClan brings gems and cave animals. Examples for DustClan cat names are Diamondpaw, Beetlestone, Amberheart and Batpaw.

WoodClan is the distant successor to ThunderClan, but they act more like ShadowClan cats. They’ve been hardened by constant fear and paranoia due to sharing their territory with WolfTribe. WoodClan is very strict and drive their rules into their kits from birth.
They’re also very good climbers, due to the fact that their camp is IN the treetops, though the nursery is in burrows below the trees. Because of this, their treaty with WolfTribe is important, as it stops the wolves from simply flushing out the nursery like a rabbit den.
The cats of this clan are bulky, with especially large paws. They tend to be darker colors, especially browns, black, and even green.
Daisystar is a large brown tabby who acts angry and strict, but he’s actually very paranoid. He feels that the amount he cares for his clan is doing things to his nerves, and he spends a lot of time outside the camp negotiating with WolfTribe’s President.
WoodClan adds the names of plants to the name pool especially flowers, with names like Chivekit, Fernpelt, Mapleblossom, Tansydust and Fruitpaw.

The collective descendants of RiverClan and WindClan, ShellClan lives on a beach and hunts in an ocean completely littered with shipwrecks. They’ve even made their camp in one they found decomposing on the beach. They’re the most medically advanced clan, as their current medicine cat is the one who invented prosthetics.
ShellClan cats are also big and bulky, just like WoodClan, and have very thick fur to keep themselves warm in the cold water. This fur is often very matted, as they don’t bother to wash the salt out of it. Other clans see them as gross because they don’t bathe, but why would they when they’re just going to go back in the ocean?
Many cats are also missing their tails, either docked preventatively or lost in accidents in shipwrecks and caves.
Rowstar is a very friendly cat. She’s a big grey tabby with a prosthetic leg. Scratchdash got the idea of prosthetics from the twoleg concept of pirates, and Rowstar, after losing her leg in a cave, volunteered to test it. He succeeded, and now that leg is a jagged stone she sharpens regularly.
With ShellClan, beach and ocean creatures join the collective knowledge, with names like Heronpaw, Blueswan, Kelpfur and Angelpaw.

Long before the clans had a policy of letting in outsiders, BadgerClan was formed from the kittypets and loners who weren’t allowed to join them. They live in the abandoned horseplace northeast of WoodClan, taking care of the animals that the twolegs left: Jimmy the horse, and three chickens; Honeypie, Lemoncake and Cookiecream. They also share their territory with Stanley, a loner who lives in the other barn, as well as his two “apprentices”, Maisy and Percy.
BadgerClan is the most diverse clan due to their more open outsider policy, and so they come in all shapes and sizes. They’re also the healthiest group, as the prey runs well and they always have the eggs from the chickens and rats from the abandoned silo. They often share this food with DustClan, so the two clans are on very good terms, despite being on opposite sides of the map.
Quailstar is also a very friendly leader. He’s a white and yellow cat who’s much too young for the role. The previous leader, Foxtail, had been forced to retire shortly after appointing him as deputy.
After the clans discovered the issue with inbreeding within their camps, they made a rule for letting in outsiders: You’re welcome to join the clans as long as you get rid of your old name and life to show your loyalty.
BadgerClan has an addendum to that rule: If you beat the deputy in battle, you may keep your old name as a badge of honor. That, along with the knowledge of twoleg things, gives BadgerClan cats a lot of variety in their names, like Emmet, Pagepaw, Charlie, Snowball and Rocket.

Wolftribe is a comparatively small pack of wolves residing in an abandoned part of WoodClan territory, though they hunt in the rest of it. Their camp is in the part of the forest that was ravaged by a forest fire.
Their ranking system doesn’t have names for warriors, apprentices, or kits but they do have name changes at roughly those same stages in life (referred to as first name, second name, and third name).
They have a president (elected every two years), a second in command, and a doctor.
Wolves value intelligence, and their naming system reflects it. Your name as a wolf is the most of one thing you’ve counted at a time. Some items are much more impressive than others, and same with numbers. For example, the current president’s name, 15 Rabbits, says they may be more powerful than another wolf, 32 Pebbles.
They have a peace treaty with Woodclan, which is basically “Don’t antagonize us and we won’t run the forest out of prey”, and they send a wolf to the gathering every moon to renew it, as well as in an attempt to socialize with the rest of the clans. They’re very different to the clans socially, but they’d still like to be friends.
